Facial Rejuvenation

Wrinkle Reduction

Here at the Family Dental Practice we offer wrinkle reducing treatments. Please book a consultation with Dr Fiona Beaty for advice and discussion on the options available.

This treatment can be most effective at improving facial lines or wrinkles caused by facial expression e.g. worry lines, frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet. These lines are caused by over activity of the muscle, causing damage to the skin and collagen. The injection relaxes the muscle and prevents the muscle contracting and causing further damage and wrinkles.

What is the anti-wrinkle procedure?

An injectable aesthetic solution is injected into the muscle. This allows the muscle to temporarily relax, which can help to soften facial expressions and can improve the signs of aging.

What areas can be treated?

Forehead and eyes

Glabella (frown lines)

Brow lift

Gummy smile

Are there any side effects?

Like all medicines, the injectable aesthetic solution can cause side effects, although any reactions are generally minimal and temporary. You may find that there can be some slight discomfort as the needle enters the skin and you may have some bruising or bleeding where the needle has been placed. Very rarely, it may result in muscle weakness.

A temporary headache is not uncommon after injections in the forehead area, especially after the first treatment. In some instances, patients may develop weakness of the neighbouring muscles leading to a temporary droopy brow or eyelid. All of these possible effects are mild, reversible, and self-limiting.

All other rare, although possible side effects will be explained at the consultation appointment.

What to expect on the day

Before the treatment, any make up will be removed and the area will be cleansed. The product is placed into the muscle with a fine needle. Very small needles are used and only small amounts are administered. As a result, any discomfort is usually minimal and short-lived, that's why there is no need for local anaesthetic.

The treatment itself will take around 15 minutes.

Aftercare

After having this treatment you are advised to avoid any rubbing of the area and to avoid any beauty treatments e.g. facial massage, Sauna’s and extreme temperatures for up to 2 weeks. You will be required to attend a review appointment three weeks post treatment which is when any slight adjustments can be made, if necessary.

How long until I can see the benefits?

The product usually takes 2-3 days to start working, although the full extent of the treatment may not be visible for up to 2 weeks. Treatment can last up to 4 months depending on the strength of your muscles and your individual response to the product. As with all cosmetic treatments there are factors which can affect results such as age, muscle activity, sun exposure, skin condition, smoking and alcohol.

How long will it last?

Results tend to last 3-6 months. Movement will begin recovering from 8 weeks. Frequent treatment at intervals of less than 3 months is not recommended. Repeating treatment when movement recovers will deliver optimum results over time. Frequency of treatments may be reduced according to the quality of your skin and your response to treatment. Should you choose not to maintain the results and not have further treatment, your muscles and skin will return to their pre-treatment state.

Dermal filler treatment is a cosmetic procedure that plumps up facial lines and wrinkles to make the skin look more youthful. Fillers usually consist of sterile hyaluronic acid gels made from non-animal sources. As we age, the skin's natural hyaluronic acid is lost, giving rise to the appearance of lines, wrinkles and folds. Fillers are also used for lip enhancement and for shaping facial, hand and neck contours.

Dermal Fillers

Here is how dermal filler treatment works

  1. Local anaesthetic is first administered to the area to prevent any discomfort.

  2. The dermal filler is then injected, which only takes a few minutes.

  3. The effect of the treatment is visible immediately.

  4. Depending on the area treated, skin type and the injection technique, the filler effect can last between 6 and 12 months (usually six months for lips)

  5. Follow-up treatments will help to maintain the plumped up look over time.

Life Benefits

  • Smoothed out skin surface for a more youthful appearance.

  • Non-surgical and painless procedure.
